Mary Pavlakos

Psychotherapist for Adolescents, Adults, Couples and Families

Mary takes a warm, collaborative, and relational approach to therapy, grounded in Trauma-Informed and Strengths-Based Care. She believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change and creates a space where patients feel safe, heard, and understood. Mary approaches difficult material at a manageable pace, helping patients explore how their experiences, relationships, and patterns have shaped the way they see themselves and navigate the world. She works with patients to recognize their strengths, deepen self-understanding, and develop new ways of responding to challenges.

Mary’s clinical work integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing. She is particularly interested in working with patients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, identity development, and major life transitions. Mary helps patients identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, better understand their emotional responses, and develop practical strategies for managing difficult thoughts and feelings. She also supports patients in clarifying their values, navigating uncertainty, and making choices that feel more aligned with the lives and relationships they want to build.

In addition to Mary’s areas of special focus, she is qualified and experienced in treating a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, panic, OCD, PTSD, trauma, grief, burnout, couples and family issues, relationship difficulties, personality disorders, eating disorders, addictive disorders (including alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, and food), ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dissociative disorders, psychotic disorders, chronic illness adjustment, sleep disorders, somatic conditions, work and career stress, identity and existential concerns, perfectionism, cultural and racial identity stress, and life transitions. Using an eclectic range of evidence-based approaches, she provides compassionate, individualized care tailored to every patient she serves.

Mary has a strong foundation in clinical social work through her formal training at Quinnipiac University. She also holds a Bachelor of Social Work from New York University. Prior to her graduate clinical training, she worked in people operations, community engagement, and wellness support, giving her insight into interpersonal dynamics, workplace relationships, and the ways professional environments can influence identity and well-being. Her background across social work and people-focused roles informs her commitment to compassionate, culturally responsive, and person-centered care.
